No idea, but the first 4 digits are right, the next two don't match what mine are.

Try this and see what it comes back with: http://www.motoverse.com/tools/vinDecoder.asp

It said mine was a 1980 FXDB, belt driven, big twin, rear wheel drive, etc...all correct but the year.

Ask to see the owner's manual. They have VIN decoders right in the front of them, at least my Heritage and my son's sporty have them in there.

The VIN numbers are screwed up on the new models. I just bought a 2011 Fatboy, and the dealer explained to me, that H-D is "recycling" their VIN numbers (using number combinations that they did not use prior) that screws up the known VIN numbering convention. On my Temp Tag, Temp Registration it says 1981, but on my Title it says 2011. From H-D perspective, the VA DMV needs to update their software ... From the DMV's perspective, H-D has altered the way it does Vin numbers...

The VIN numbers are screwed up on the new models.

When I ran mine thru the decoder, it said the VIN makes it either 2011 or 1981.

hd was using digits for the year code, but when 2010 rolled around, they had to change things up a bit so as not to get mixed up with an earlier year model. so in 2010, the year code is A, 2011 is B, and 2012 is C.

They'll have to go to double letter or letter-digit combinations by the year 2036.

The VIN numbers aren't screwed up. The 10th digit signifies the year using a federally mandated code. In 1981 they started with A, went through the alphabet and in 2001 through 2010 they used numbers. In 2011 they had to go back to the A to signify either a 1981 or 2011. They simply ran out of numbers and letters for a single digit code. B will mean either 1982 or 2012.
