Other factors...My gas was pumped when the temp was 100 degrees. Did the expansion happen IN the tank or was the temp. enough to have most of the gas expanded already as it came out of the pipe.
The tanks at a station are underground so the gas is pretty cool when it comes out. Your bike on the other hand if it has been running at normal temps is up around two hundred degrees and your tank sits on top of that. Leave a little room.

As a certifiable tank-overfiller, I can tell you to put the cap on and ride soon. If you park it, or go pay for snacks, or anything.... it will expand and pour all over the ground. Anytime it's 85 or over, gas on ground.

Yes, I am hardheaded, and take a long time to learn.

I never have to worry about such things, I don't have enough money to actually fill the whole entire tank full of gas.

yeah the mccuff thing works, been using it since 2007 when they first were invented. And now its all cool looking cause my dirty hands have roughed it up on the outside giving it some character and blackening it up... its badass looking now
