Hold on...Your gascap is at the right side of your tanK? Your jiffy stand is at the left side of your bike? Than the bike will lean over to the left and not to the right. I use this to fill my tank fully up. Indeed, when your bike is leaning to the left wen overfilling your tank and you come off the jiffy stand the level to the right (position of the gas cap) will raise...But when you are filling up your tank with the bike straight up, it is impossible to leak at the gas cap when standing on the jiffy stand.

Haven't had any leak like that, that I remember.
Always fill to bottom of vent hole.
Always ride after filling, dont think I've ever let her sit right after filling..

tighten the cap
This is the problem. Too many riders stop tightening when they hear a few clicks. Then they complain of bad caps. WRONG! Tighten it! No more fuel leaking.

This is a problem for the XR1200. There are a significant number of reports on the various XR boards about the plastic tank expanding to the point that the top cover pops off. Based on the number of reports, it seems like a given that if you own an XR, you will be replacing the tank. There are some owners who are on their 3rd (or more!) tank.
It's apparently also an issue with some of the plastic tanked Ducatis.

Call me a Klutz...
I can't fill my bike up without spillin it. I fill it everytime till it runs out a little.
Just take a paper towel and wipe it off.
Must be gitin Old or something.

I had this same problem with my FatBob. Just like ROMPUS said, the gas cap starts clicking before the cap is actually secure. Once I started pressing down on the cap after it started clicking, I could almost tighten the cap another 3/4 turn. Never had a leak since.

The last several years that I was farming, my fuel supplier would not deliver gasoline before noon. He claimed the expansion loss would kill him finacially. Diesel, yes Gasoline, no way!

Gas expansion: 1 gallon = 221 cubic inches at 60 degrees.
At 90 degrees the same amount of gas expands to 235.8 cu.
Other factors...My gas was pumped when the temp was 100 degrees. Did the expansion happen IN the tank or was the temp. enough to have most of the gas expanded already as it came out of the pipe.
