Hey 98, Clammy has you goin in the right direction. The NXT's are about the thinnest DOT approved helmets you will find. You are right about the ones you see on the bike shows on TV. Very cool but almost all are novelty type and while they look cool they really do not provide much in the way of crash protection. Personally I wear the H-D Trespasser helmet, the one without the studs on the strap. I found it to be the least "mushroomy" of the H-D helmets. Very similar to what the local P.D.'s wear. Here's a link to the site
short link

Damn I like that bucket! I wonder if they carry it in Flat black.
Yup they do! Mine is flat black! Matches the wrinkle black on my Night Train, and I love it!

Cheers!

Hmmm... I have to wonder how they can be a skid lid AND DOT approved. As far as I know the NXT is the lowest profile DOT approved helmet available.

Cheers!

are you saying skid lid brand is usually not DOT approved? maybe they branched out to make DOT helmets? I have a credit at helmets etc, so if the skid lid is compairable to the nxt, i could get... not to mention its much cheaper. anyone have one of these?
thanks again all

We were just looking at Skid Lids at the dealership today. They have the DOT sticker on the back.

Ok, I didn't know "Skid Lid" was a brand name, I thought they were the non-DOT novelty lids commonly referred to as skid lids.

How thick was the padding in them, Heather?

Cheers!

LOL, all helmets are skid lids, but not all are Skid Lids.

I've been using one of these ever since Louisiana passed their helmet law. It is light and fairly low profile, too. Comfortable enough that I don't even stop at the state line and take it off any longer. DOT approved, though it's pretty to make an "unofficial" DOT sticker if you have a 'puter. (I didn't say that. Some guy told me. Really.)

I talked to the harley dealer that I bought the helmet from and asked them if they would sell me another helmet at cost or do somthing because of the size issue. Of course they wouldnt so I emailed nxt and told them the problem I was having. After about 2 days someone replied and after a couple emails I sent off my helmet. They are going to resize it for me for no charge. I have to pay to ship it tho, which isnt a big deal. I am not sure if they will do this on a regualr basis or of they are just doing me a favour. Either way I am extremely happy with them and I love my helmet. Nothing compares and believe me I have checked out alot of helmets and own alot. The count early this spring was 12 helmets total. I sold one of my bikes and gave away to modular helmets with it.

LOL, built it for a neighbor kid from a scrapped frame I found in the township dump. I think I was 16 and had recently seen Easy Rider. It's been all down hill since then.
