I ride the vast majority of the time by myself.
When I'm not alone, my wife is with me on her bike.
When we road trip I do all the route planning, hotels, destination plans. She calls the gas stops.
I'm several days into a solo cross country. My plans have changed, at least a little, every day. I can just roll with it and make changes. I don't need to pull in to a rest area and hold a committee meeting.
Group rides with people you don't know- Not any more, too many close calls.
Group rides with people you know-Sure, but no whiners, no 25 mile stoppers and no dictators or I'm going alone.
Solo or couple rides- Yep, works every time.

My wife & I took a plane from Tampa FL - Rapid City SD. Went to Black Hills HD, rented a Heritage for 3 days and rode alone last Sept. Met nice people and did what we wanted to when we wanted to. Going to Pheonix this Sept and gonna do the same thing.

My .02 is; My buddy is always looking for people to ride, same thing come snowmobile season.... the fact is, the more people & machines involved = compounded problems! Gas stops, I'm hungry, I have to pee, someone breaks down.... what a pain in the ***! Keep your rides small & simple. If you intend to ride with a few buds & thier wives, plan it out in advance to lessen the BS.
...again, just my .02
