Solution-how to lock my helmet
I usually hang my helmet on the handlebars and walk away. I leave with an uneasy feeling that someday I am going to return and find the helmet missing. I don't want to carry a cable lock around with me. I realize that most helmet locks are no match for a sharp knife, but at least it's something. I figure most helmets are stolen out of impulse. Maybe a lock will give a thief a second thought.
Anyway, I ordered the new Kuryakyn helmet lock earlier this month and it finally arrived today. Took 5 minutes to install. Seems like a reasonable item for $24.99. http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=harley&ci=3625
Here it is on my bike.

Check out Kuryakin web site for a KEW lock. If you've got their grips, it's made to go on as an end cap. Slot in the bottom for your D-ring and barrel key in the end. Seemed like a good idea for folks with bags.

We have 2 of the HD helmet locks on the crash bars, they work fine. True, you could defeat them pretty quick with a knife or a crowbar, but they defer the impulse theives. Have never had a problem.

I just use a luggage lock thru the d ring and around the mirror post.

RE: Solution-how to lock my helmet
Usually I just put our helmets in the tour pack, but when that is full I use a 5 foot long bicycle cable lock. I have also locked our mesh jackets to the bike by slipping the cable through the sleeves and then through the helmet D-rings and aroung the saddle bag guard. I have never felt comfortable just leaving my helmet on the bike unsecured. All some jerk has to do is take it for ***** and giggles and I can't even ride the bike. Mandatory helmet use where I am.

Do these locks leave the helmet hanging "hard-side" down? The reason I'm asking is that I used to leave the helmet dangling low from my highway pegs. One day, while I was in court trying a case we had a gully-washer of a storm. By the time I was able to get to my poor water-logged helmet, there was enough water in it that a couple of goldfish would have been quite comfortable swimming around. From now on when the sky is cloudy if I can't leave it hard-side up, it comes with me.
