Do a partial DITY move and tow the bike in a UHaul trailer. Usually end up making a few bucks and you retain custody (and safekeeping) of the bike.

Hey look at prices for small new or used trailers. U haul money is thrown away because they don't reimburse for rentals anymore. They pay a set rate for mileage and weight. For a couple hundred bucks more than the u haul rental you can buy a small trailer and have the government basically pay for it. If you get one 8' x 12' or smaller you can get paid for the weight of the trailer in addition to all the crap you can stuff on it. The government has bought me a few trailers on PCS moves.

I let them move me from Ft. Hood to Ft. Bragg, but took my bike myself. That move was so screwed up, I did the DITY thing every other time. I had one of the nightmares where we slept on the floor for over a month.

Concur, partial DITY for CONUS moves will ensure the bike arrives in good condition and you don't have to wait for TMO to deliver it. I'd even contemplate parking the Jeep midway and taking a few days riding around.

Default shipping bike

Last May I had my Electra Glide and RKC shipped from GA to Italy in a container, I must admit I was a little worried but when the bikes arrived not a single scratch on them!

I never moved a bike but moved several times with the military and with the govt., I have always taken care of the crew and driver (kiss there *** a little) with lunch and snacks and never had had one problem. You'll be right there in the loading crating or straping it down. I used Mayflower last...owner operator and cool dude, hell these truck drivers know how you fell about your bike.

I had a couple pistols and a shotgun when I moved. Just make sure it's documented, they'll get there.
Or you could get a concealed carry permit and only travel the states that share a reciprocation agreement with IL... And roll like Mad Max!

Go with the trailer option. Should be able to pay for a new motorcycle trailer with the partial dity move $$$.

I've never PCS'd within the States, that'd be odd for me.
