Default Sturgis~ Bike Security Question

This year is my first trip to Sturgis & have heard that every year bikes are stolen at the rally. While I'm not too worried, I was curious if any of you take extra measures of security such as the rotor locks on the front brake disc. Appreciate any info on this.

Thanks,
Clay

I just make sure I lock the forks, lock the ignition on the FLTR, and set the factory security.

Are you going solo or with friends? Cable lock the bikes together and the thieves just might look for easier targets.

Went last year for the first time - zero problems. All I ever lock is the ignition.

FYI - it's also a big week for tow-trucks. There was a bike parked 1 foot into the yellow curb and they were hooking it up & towing it away. Another one - huge grocery store parking lot, signs say 2 hour parking. There were a bunch of tow trucks towing away bikes that were parked there for 4 hours.

I found the easiest place to park was Main Street as there are always bikes coming/going.

If you're camping, you could always go this route at night...

The whole Sturgis bike theft thing is greatly exxaggerated. As a previous poster mentioned, you're far more likely to get your bike impounded by a tow truck for parking in a 'no parking zone'. Sturgis would be a very stupid place to attempt a motorcycle theft....just too damn filled with people, crawling with hundreds of cops to control traffic, federal agents looking at VIN numbers in the hunt for chopped and stolen motorcycles, no possibility of a quick getaway if discovered, and a serious probability for a would-be bike thief to get his sorry ***-kicked by an angry mob.

How many bikes were stolen at Sturgis last year? How many were stolen in your home town? Figure the odds and have fun.

Just park next to either a much better lookin bike ( the thieves will take that one instead of yours) OR next to a bunch of bikes from an MC. Most clubs have Probates acting as security for their scoots and having someone hangin around watching the bikes will deter just about any would be thief.

The rally boasts in its official guidebook a list of criminal statistics over the years: Emergency room visits, number of attendees put in jail, parking tickets and even calls to the local sheriff are among some the deviant behaviors listed. Each year, an average of $250,000 worth of bikes is stolen during the rally, and even though there are a fair number of misdemeanors, most of the arrests are for non-violent crimes.

Fork locks, security system on, rotor lock. Never had a problem.

Don't sweat it. Enjoy the rally. "BOOBIES AND BEER FOR EVERYONE!!"
