Sturgis~ Bike Security Question
#11
I am figuring for some extra security, I am going to use a regular padlock on the front rotor. I have done this many times with sportbikes and never had one stoled. Ima also bolt a small ammo can inside my softbags for some extra security for the small stuff. And the bike will be sleeping with me in the tent.

been going to sturgis for many years, never knew of anyone having a bike stolen. I'd be willing to bet many that are reported stolen are really fraud cases. ie got drunk wrecked bike or blew it up in a burnout pit then got a ride downtown and reported it stolen. even with $250000 in bikes stolen last year thats like 12 or 13 at 20G's each, out of the 250000+ bikes there on an average year (estimate) think you're more likely to get it stolen from your garage at home.

actually 21 were stolen last yr, and another 47 were damaged do to people spilling throwing beer bottles or just jealous people scratching custom paint you can find that in public records

still pretty good odds if ya ask me. common sense goes a long way at sturgis, if something don't feel/look right steer clear of the situation. Been working for me a long time during rally week in the black hills.

Cool idea, but I woulda backed the bike in (so its leaning the other way)...just in case the stand decides to sink into the ground and dump the bike on top of me in my sleeping bag
It doesn't look likely in that pic (dry ground), but I tend to worry too much...

If your side stand sinks in the ground you will learn how to park eventually. My bikes always sleep inside. The idea is to make it not worth the trouble. Secure your bike--have a good time.
