Starter ???
Sorry guys I'm new and need an answer not sure where I would get it so I posted in the EVO section and here as well.........
I am under the impression there are two size starter setups. The starter that was on my 94-95 primary was the one with the thicker bolt and larger inner primary gears that runs from the primary into the starter. The starter I found in the parts pile has an identical spline and lines right up, but uses the thinner bolt. The only difference between the starters is the size of the threads in the spline part of the starter. Can I just go and purchase the thinner bolt and be ok.

I've been looking into this a bit. I saw somewhere-I think it was J&P Cycle- where you can buy an "adaptor" bolt to do just what you want to do. It was a bolt with a 1/4" body, but a 10-32 thread.
It's J&P part number 382-726.
Here: http://www.jpcycles.com/product/382-726
The description seems backward, though, as I thought the later starter used the 1/4" screw and the '89-93 used the 10-32 screw. Whatever, this looks like it might work.

Thankyou, That was what i was getting at, just not able to get it across. I completely forgot about explaining if there was a need for the difference in the body of the bolt........Well their went riding this weekend.

Mine is the 94-95 primary with the 1/4" bolt. The starter I found is the 10/32. Which should be the 89-93. Thanks again for the great insight and good find on the part. Riding is still in my future gonna try to turn the 1/4" on a lathe down to the 10/32.

If you have access to a lathe, so much the better. Keep in mind the steel bolt is probably hardened, so re-threading the end with a die may be a bit of a problem, but it's worth a shot.
