Pretty soon everyone will be walking around town with helmets on. Now that will be a sight.

If 2 pound chunk of ice hit you in the head FF helment isn't going to keep your neck from being broke

I was riding through the Black Hills 5 years ago and hit a hail storm. It got cold as hell and then started raining. I had a small ice hit my cheek and I told the old lady man that rain is hard. She yelled at me that it was hailing and we pulled over quickly. My buddy had one hit his nose. Told me that didn't feel very good either.

I suggest pulling over at the first sign of hail. Why the hell would anyone keep riding?

When I was riding it was high 80's then low 30's in a flash. My glasses fogged over and I was just trying to clear them when it hit. We didn't ride very far in it. Where we pulled over 4 others pulled over and we were in the woods when lightning hit. We decided to have a few small hail hit us instead.

Another tip I got from my first wife (she was raised on a farm in southern MN) - If you see a thunderhead and if the lightning is cloud-to-cloud (long rumbling thunder rather than a quick bang), you better prepare for hail. I've followed that advice many times and gotten off the lake or off the road in a nick of time. (It didn't help me a couple weeks ago though when I got caught in a nasty hail storm on the bike. I kinda got beat up a bit. There was no warning except for the black sky and some wind that was ripping trees out by the roots.)
Yeah...sometimes there ain't much warning at all is there.

Hey, at least ya got something useful from your first wife...I wasn't so lucky.
