I think I found out why Harley's are so heavy. I was browsing around the new 2011 models and found a video about Harley's paint. They claim that they are putting on up to 5 millimeters (0.1968498 inch) of clearcoat on their bikes!?
No need to be afraid of polishing thru the paint anyhow...

How in tarnations does paint add inordinate weight to a bike? The sheet metal on a bike is very small compared to a car/truck. I just don't see how this is WHY Harley's are so heavy. Could it be the giant freaking engine? The super duty frame? or maybe it's the 20,000lbs of bull **** chrome everyone insists on having on their bike?
