I will use just about any brand that I can GET in the right
size that said I am running a dunlop 404 on the rear and that is what I took off
I get about 12000 mi on them will not go to harley for a tire
don't need the harley logo on the tire and can save money else where.

I like Avon Tyres, they ride well. I actually bought them for my Buell originally because I liked the tread design (plus I heard alot of good things about them!)

my 06 roadglide is on the stock dunlops but as soon as they wear I will be changing to the Metzler. I ran Metzlers on my 96 Heritage and really like them. main reason they don't follow the rain grooves in the road and handle the rain better IMHO.

Dunlops, usually K491. Metzeler's don't last long enough. Get 10k - 14k miles out of the Dunlops on the rear, but only 8k out of the Metzelers. At the end of the tire life the Metzelers felt squirreler than the Dunlops.
I had a dealer (not HD dealer) tell me Metzelers last longer then Dunlop. Not true? I ordered Metzelers because I could not find the rear tire in Dunlop. Eveywhere I checked were back ordered. I have heard very good reports on Metzelers, I hope I did not make a mistake. I checked American, Dennis Kirk, Ron Ayers and others. All back ordered.
That was my experience. I've had others say they got better mileage out of Metzeler, but most I know who use them average about 8k miles. Maybe it's related to riding style (I got the "RodneyRoadRacerDragBike" outta my system about 25 years ago), maybe it's related to road surfaces, or maybe it's related to maintenance. Try 'em; they do have good stiction. And maybe you'll get good wear out of them.

I swaped out my rear tire this winter for a Metzler and was going to do the same for the front as soon as it wore out. As it turns out, a broken Bud bottle made the change necessary a little earlier and I now have the Metzlers on both front and back. I've heard/read a lot of good things about the Metz tires, don't know if they'll last any longer than the stock Dunlops.

I've used Continentals on my old Sporty as replacements and went through 2 sets in under 20,000 miles. I don't know how they'd last on a larger bike, but they did stick to the road pretty well.

Metzeler ME880s for me. They handle better, they corner better, they are better in the rain, and aren't overwhelmed by grooved pavement.

Cheers!

Thanks everyone. Looks like Dunlops are still the tire of choice. I am looking forward to trying the Metzelers, even if it was by default!

Mine came with Dunlops obviously, but last time I needed a back tire I was over in Illinois at the All Harley Drags and Metzler had a booth. So I went over and asked why I should switch to Metzler? He gave me his sales pitch and then told me that to do it right I shold change them both. I told him that I didn't need to change the front yet. He told me to talk to the booth next to him ( A HD dealer) because they were running a special. By the back tire at regular price and the front tire was free! Mounted and balanced. So I switched to Metzler. I like the way they perform, we will see how long they last.
