Default Brake Leak

Both my front and rear brake master cylinders appear to be leaking around the lid gasket. I cant detect any reduction in braking ability but the paint on the reservoir is definitely wrinkling and pealing like it has been exposed to brake fluid. Do I need to rebuild the cylinder? Replace the gasket? Is this a common problem?

BTW, this is on an '07 FLHP. Thanks for your help.

Over tightening the reservoir cover screws will normally not help the leak. Mine leaked (clutch and front brake) and I took them off and cleaned all brake fluid off the seal and where it seats on the reservoir and cover. Torqued the screws properly and had no leaks. You can always just replaced the seal too...it's not to costly.

I wouldn't think you would have to do a rebuild on an '07,already. Change the gaskets and go from there.

My brake reservoir had a leak like that and mysteriously stopped before I had a chance to deal with it. Be very careful when you do work on it, cover any exposed painted surfaces.

Sounds like what was mentioned the screws may have been over tightened. If you do decide to replace the gaskets make sure your bike is level. Don't over tighten and keep a rag handy to wipe up any spills.
