loud click when shifting gears

Default loud click when shifting gears

i have a 2010 sportster iron, when i engage clutch and place in first gear she clicks(almost bags pretty loud).. is this normal? also when i shift to anygear she does.. thanks eric

so what you are saying is on the 2010 Iron, its a feature that makes the loud shifting sound on this bike? or is it like that on sporsters period?..

Before starting have the gear in neutral. Then hold the clutch in and warm the motor up for about a minute. When you shift into first gear the shift should be close to silent.

What happens is while setting the oil is squeezed from out between the plates. Holding the clutch open and idling for a while will get oil back between the plates.

This is a tip that I learned in the 60's. Works on all cycles.

After the bike is hot it will not work as well as the hot oil is squeezed out quicker. When the bikes gets past several thousand miles, the clunking will fade over time due to everything wearing in.

Love the sound of a Harley trans! Also the sound of the old style clutch that rattles when disengaged-that's pure music!

It's pretty much a Sportster thing. But you can allways check the tension on the primary chain.

Guy I ride with just picked up new sportster "48" and he mentioned the same concern. Definitely louder than the touring bikes the rest of my group rides which includes 2 06's and a 10.
