Default 2007 Road Glide Wheel Material

The stock 2007 Road Glide 9 spoke wheel is labled as "cast alloy". Does anyone know what the alloy is? Aluminum goes through a crystalline-structure change around 410°F (becomes brittle) and the curing temperature for powder coat is also around 400°F, so if the wheel is aluminum then I'll paint it rather than have it powder coated.

Thanks, if any one knows.

That wheel is made of cast aluminum. As far as the crystaline structure change is concerned, it depends on the grade of aluminum. There are alloys out there that do not change at the lower temps. Some of the wheels are powder coated from the factory and there have been no problems with them.

While we're on the subject of Road Glide wheels, I have a question. I put a set on my RK and the rim of the wheel is polished. Is it covered with the same clear coat as the rest of the wheel or is it naked? If it's naked I'll polish on it. If not, I may just leave it alone.

It's not clear coated. It will polish up fine. I don't think HD clear coats any bare aluminum. At least rims and lower fork legs aren't.
