A ride out west "helmet or no helmet"

I was riding with a group last month and the guy next to me got pulled for wearing a non DOT helmet. He was from Cali, and got off with a warning. Lucky, considering Bike cops here are known for their no nonsense approach.
But, like the other post, bring a dot helmet with you.
