Do you use wrong oil?
#21
I am not asking about manufacturer, only weight. It seems like 95% use 20W50 oil when manual says to use streight 60.
Are you using recommended weight?
I just begun using right weight.
From 2000 FLT manufacturers manual:
10W40 below 40F
20W50 above 40F
50 above 60F
60 above 80F
Are you using recommended weight?

20W50 above 40F
50 above 60F
60 above 80F
Read your manual, don't just look at the pictures. Oil weight should be based off the lowest temperature you will be riding in.
Not too often is the low temp for the day above 80F here.
I don't see any reason to switch from 20W50 to straight 50 weight for July and August.

Lots of people make 60w. I'm amazed at the number of people with iron barrels that run anything else. Anything earlier than a Shovel with a plastic breather gear 60w is fine. I think that was '82? (but I could be wrong. I'd NEVER put a multi-weight in my Pan's or my Knuckle.
$460 for 4 oil changes or
$47.40 for 4 oil changes using the castrol motorcycle at $3.95 a quart hmmmmmmmmmm
and given i have to change the oil every 1000 miles or so it makes it realisticly unfeasable

Actually if you ride in really cool weather, 15/50 would come closer to the right weight according to the manual. I run it year round and it works fine. 50,000 on the Dyna and still going strong.

So, from your observation, you must be wrong 95% of the time.

oh i know lots of people make 60 weight but locally HD is the only place that carry's it, i could special order it in through canadian tire but then i would have to buy a whole case, and pay the freight on it each time i wanted it. 12 quarts to a case, $30 a quart =$360 plus s $100 freight = $460

Plus, if you live near a private airport see if you can find someone there to sell you oil from their bulk drum. It should be cheaper still.
