Please help. Moron with a few questions???
Hey guys, I went to a bikeshop today (not a HD dealership). My wife’s cousin’s husband runs the place. It deals with all types of bikes and off road. He told me when purchasing oils for the three holes the primary and transmission could use the same type of synthetic oil.
Last time I went to a Stealership, I was raped buying the oils and filter and I did the work myself. Money is tight, the cousin’s husband told me they work on Harleys and sell stuff for them, so I went.
The oils he sold me were expensive, but I got a “relative’s good guy price” and he told me all the Goldwing guys use these oils. On the back of the bottles the oils say they are used for Harley’s.
My questions are:
Sorry for the long post. I just don't want to “F” up my scooter
Thanks guys for reading…
- I bought Motul Gear 300 100% 75W90 synthetic, which the guy told me I could use for the transmission.
- I bought Motul 20W50 for the Primary.
- I bought Motul 300V 15W50 for the motor

My questions are:
- Has anyone heard of these oils?
- Are they any good?Did I get the right kinds of oils for the primary and transmission?
- Can the primary and transmissions oils be used in the same holes?
- Using different weights in oils, is that a problem?
- Do I have the correct weights for my bike?

well, opinions vary about oil weights for the trans, etc, but you can look that up in your owners manual.
as for motul, its a great oil company. i have used their semi-synth and their full synth in various weights for many of my bikes for years.

Motul makes good oil and it appears the viscosity on his recommendations are spot on. However, I use 10W40 non-synthetic in the primary because it does not contain additives that might cause clutch slippage.

thank you for getting back to me guys. do any of you use Lucas synthetic stabilizer in your oils. if so are there a difference from the motor/primary and transmission?

Your Motul oil, as with any top rated oil, was engineered to have the proper balance of necessary additives. Adding something else to the oil "package" may do more harm than good, and if nothing else, is a waste of money.
BTW, Where do you live? In the US?

The stuff you got is great. I wouldn't worry about adding anything to it. It's probably better than most oils out there but it's pricey so most haven't used it. As far as I know Motul only makes oils for motorcycles so there is no worries with friction modifiers. These guys have been in business for a while and they know their stuff.
