Default Basic questions to ask a turner ?

I'm going to meet with 3 different guys Tomorrow to try to find out witch one I will have Dyno tune my 10 FXDC, stock motor, V&H BSS, SE ac, with a SEST, I have close to 3000 miles on her. I have talked on the phone with all of them. All 3 said it will take about 30-45 minutes longer with the SEST because they are harder to work with, but they did say the SEST done right, will do a great job of fine turning my bike. Right now I have a generic download in that the Dealer I got it from did. My bike runs pretty strong but it pops on harder down shifts and it likes to backfire sometimes when going under 30 mph, above that it just about never backfires. My gas mileage is OK if I drive it on the soft side most of the time around 45-47 mpg.
So What I need to know is what are some basic questions I should ask them ? I did a Search but couldn't find what I was looking for...Thanks.

Go to the "Ignition/Electrical/ECM..." section of this forum. There is a sticky titled "5 Questions to ask your Tuner".

2)How many Dyno runs will you have to make to finish a tune?
(answer) 50 to 70 on a average

In 4 hours that would be like 18 Dyno runs per hour, seems like that could blow up my motor. Carbs are starting to sound good again. This EFI stuff can be confusing.

The guy that did mine had it on the machine for 5 hours, but it was over a 2 day period to allow for cooling off.

For them to actually go through and fine tune your motor, it will take quite a few hours. And as for your motor blowing up, if somethings about to let go in your motor, the dyno will make it happen sooner rather than later. Done properly running your bike on the dyno doesn't put any more stress on the motor than riding it on the street. And as for the amount of runs, mine was recently done and it took a total of 95 runs to be dialed in!

Also remember that a lot of the runs are not full throttle.
thats why U get a good tune on the dyno, its tuned at all throttle ranges, to give U good response and milage everywhere.
At least if Ur F/M system allows for it.

Doc usually takes 5-6 hours, barring problems, and his tunes are fantastic. I am hauling two of bikes down to him on Sunday - tuning the Springer since I changed exhaust and air cleaner and then he is doing the 103" build on my Street Glide (heads, TW6-6 cams, etc.). I highly recommend him to anyone who can get to the Clermont, FL area.
