Diabetic help needed
My wife and I are planning a 3000 mile trip in September. She is a type two diabetic. My question for you that have diabetes and are on insulin is how do you keep it cool while on road trips?

You can keep it cool with ice packs in a small cooler. Get a lunch sized (think sandwich sized) pack and refreeze the ice packs when you stop for the night.
Make sure you put new batteries in the glucometer and keep them from getting too hot as well. Pack extra syringes as well.
More important will be to carry her prescriptions with her just in case something goes wrong. That way you could get more insulin and syringes without jumping through a million hoops.
Have fun and enjoy the trip!

HD make a Hydration jacket that you soke in water then dip dry then ride and it acks like a swomp cooler while you ride. I dont know if they make chaps in the same form though.

You didn't say what kind of bike your going on...if you have a dresser you could put a 12 volt cooler in the tour pack

My son is type 1 and carries an insulin pen. It's much easier to deal with during his busy day. It's also a lot more important to make frequent stops so she keeps hydrated if you are riding in the heat.

I think his question is how type 1 diabetics keep their insulin cool when on bike trips. His wife is a type 2 & takes pills. My daughter is a type 1 but doesn't ride. I would think a tiny cooler or thermos to hold the insulin carried in your bags would work. Oldschoolmedic has it covered.

Type 1 the body does not produce insulin. Type 2 the body produces an inefficient insulin. Type 1 is insulin dependent, type 2 may or may not take injections.
oldschoolmedic's got you covered.

Nope, being type 1 or type 2 has nothing to do with being dependent on shooting insulin. Though there are a lot of type 2 that can get by on pills but some would control it better by using insulin.
