I can understand your angst, that was a tragic loss on Rt72.
I've been checking every day hoping for updates on the cause,
but so far nothing. I and my friends were involved in a similar
incident when we were in our twenty's. A Lincoln car pulled out
onto the highway from a nearly concealed dirt lane across in
front of us. I admit we were wfo, and it was late at night. I made
it around the back of the car, but my two friends didn't. It was a
sound and sight I never forgot. A number of our friends gave up
riding that night, I gave it some serious thought but stayed a rider.
Now after many years of wind in my hair, I glad I didn't quit. Do
what I did, give it a rest for a week, a month, or what ever you
need to do, but don't give up on it. If you do stay with it, learn to
be a smart rider. I will not ride close with someone with questionable
skills, never side by side and always well staggered. I'm a firm
believer that it's when two drivers are detracted at the same time,
it's an accident waiting to happen. Stay "up on the bars," never get
complacent. With all that said, "see ya in the wind" soon.

 

Before the war my dad went down as was in the hospital for a while.
His friends took him out into the country 2 hours north of the Bronx.

They left him there on the side of the road with his Harley. He didn't want to get on at first but it was the only way for him to get home.

Apprehensive at first but after the first few miles went by he said riding became second nature again.

 

Like some else said could it be your not happy with your style of bike? Seriously. I bought a bike three years ago that I was not happy with after some miles on it. At the time I felt 40 yrs plus you needed bags and windsheilds etc. Didn't like it after all and in 3 yr I put about 4500 miles on it. In April I traded it in on a 09 FXSTC and cant ride enough put 2500 miles in a couple of months. No bags, wind shield, and I got my footpegs back lol. I feel like I did at 14 on my kawasaki 175 street trail, independent and free. I bike is different things to different people. That's what a bike is about. Be true to yourself and your nature. The country is full of used bikes with less then 1000 miles from people that thought they wanted one and found out it wasnt for them. GL in your decision.

 

Sorry to hear about that accident, but we all knew the risks going in. People get killed in Chevies and Fords everyday, but that doesn't stop many from driving their cars.

It's weird reading about other people wrecking and especially people I know has more of an impact on me than my actual wreck. I will have bodily reminders for life but I can't wait to get on my new scoot.

Out of riding for 10yrs then bought this one new in 07, actually I love it more, for sure the wife does, being retired does help, we ride mostly in the country, almost 0 traffic, we also live in a small town, traffic here is also very light cept on Fri & Sat night...
we now ride more than we ever did.

 

Park it and take a break from it all for a year or so. If after that you still don't give a hoot and have no passion for it then sell it and buy yourself a nice new toy of some kind. I've had times where I lost interest in a hobby or a thing I loved to do, but after a few years I was glad I kept my stuff and got back into it again.

 

This is probably a good idea, later on you'll want to ride again and be back here telling us about the new bike, good luck...
