I've had friends and relatives say similar things to me or my wife. My wife loves riding as much as I do and it bothers her when someone emails pictures of a bike inside a car that pulled out in front of it.

I'll usually either tell them in person or through an email that if they do a search on the internet they'll find tons and tons of gruesome photos of bike accidents able to quench the thirst of anybody that's the least bit bloodthirsty.

As my wife and I are not bloodthirsty please stop sending or telling either of us about those things that mostly happen from stupid acts of riding or stupid speeding riders, neither of which we do.

I seem to never hear from them again about the subject.

 

There's no better way to go if you ask me - doing what you love more than anything on earth. Or you can die in diapers at 90 and tubes feeding you in a rest home. No thanks.

 

That cause they dont know,,, "chit bout Bikes",,, and thats the only subject they can talk about when trying to talk bikes with Ya.

 

My answer is always "Thanks for the warning. Oh, by the way, a friend of mine was killed in a car just like yours."

People who never have ridden just can't understand the bug. Tell them it beats dying of boredom and you don't intend to go either way.

 

Why do you think I would want to hear about that?

They have always shut up and moved on.

 

Same thing with gun talk by anti-gun folks. Even though man had been killing man with sticks, rocks and vines since the beginning of time.

Don't waste your breath, they can't be converted to common sense.

I think it all boils down to the fact that they don't have the intestinal fortitude (sorry for the big words, "*****") to throw they leg over a bike and experience what we do.

Unfortunately I know a few ex-riders who stopped because their wife had the same opinion as those the OP was talking about.

 

Or the old one " a gut the size of yours gave my uncle a heart attack, killed him too".

But as I said, common sense can't be driven into those people, period.
