I found a station not far from my house the other day. Cant recall the brand but I think it was Chevron (Not sure though) Anyway advertised on the pump is a sign which is hand written "No ethanol" As I have an older Carbed bike wouldn't that be my best option? Octane was 93 by the way.

 

I don't run that 'ethanol blended crap' in any of my Harley's (doesn't matter if they are carb'd or efi).

I run the 'regular' non-blended 92 octane gas.

Harley states that you can run gasoline/ethanol blends in your motorcycle if the ethanol content doesn not exceed 10%, but they also have the following disclaimer;

"You may find that some gasoline blends adversely affect the starting, driveability or fuel efficiency of your motorcycle. If you experience one or more of these problems is it recommended you operate your motorcycle on straight unleaded gas".

 

Newer EFI bikes seam to handle ethanol with out problems. My carbed Sportie doesn't run well on ethanol fuels. Water bonds to ethanol and the longer gas sits the more moisture it absorbs.

 

Given any options, I won't run ethanol in my bike or my JD tractor. Straight unleaded with a soupcon of SeaFoam from time to time.

You wouldn't get much riding in here in IL then cause 10% blend is all you can buy.

Same here. All we have is ethanol blends. Plus the highest octane is 91, no 92 or 93 in Las Vegas. Though you can by racing fuel, about 102 octane but it is not recommended as a steady diet for the bike.

 

I won't run ethanol blended fuels in any of my vehicles unless I REALLY have to. It's turning into a major problem for boat owners so I use an ethanol specific fuel stabilizer ( http://www.goldeagle.com/brands/stab...marine_formula ) in my boat. Maybe this would be an idea for those that have to use ethanol fuels on a regular basis.

 

Yep.... Same here in South FloooreeeDUH.... 91 octane with the 10% ethanol at every place you can find.

Somebody told me of a trick to remove ethanol from gas by adding water, shaking then letting it settle. The ethanol is supposed to bond to the water and settle to the bottom, leaving clean fuel at the top...

I use that trick to find out if someone has added E85 fuel to a non Flex Fuel vehicle. You measure the fuel in a test bottle, add a measured amount of water and shake then measure how much settles to the bottom. More than a 10% increase in the amount of water/ethanol at the bottom indicates E85 in the sample.
