Should the fan be running on this bike after its been ridden for awhile? I have to admit, I don't get on it as much as I'd like (code for ... I haven't rode it in over a year!). But it seems to be hotter than I remember and I can't hear the fan running. No warning lights or anything, and it seems to be running fine. Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Thx for any advice.....

did you try turning on the air conditioner? That should kick the fan on. If not, check the fan motor relay.

You can always suppliment the eletric fan by having your passenger use a hand fan. According to the HD manul. The dealer has them in chrome or gloss black.

The fan shuts off as soon as you turn off the ignition switch. If you look closely next time, you'll see that the fan isn't running at all. The sound you're hearing is the remaining air coming to a stop after the fan shuts off. Harley fans have to be very powerful because the bike is air cooled, and the momentum of the air keeps it flowing around the cylinders for awhile after the bike is stopped. How long the air flows depends on how fast and how far you've ridden. The faster and farther, the more air pressure gets stored up in momentum, and the longer it will flow. My longest time was around 15 minutes.

wtf?

harleys have motor fans?

mine must have been hard wired to the windshield wipers, and i guess the previous owner took them both off.

seriously though, they have motor fans?
