anyone know of a low profile helmet?

Here's what you do. If you wear, for example, a size L helmet, find yourself a nice DOT size XS helmet that appeals to you. Make sure it's really cheap in case you screw it up.
Remove the helmet liner. It's tucked into the tiny space between the outer shell, and the inner styrofoam. Once the liner is removed, carve out the styrofoam. Use a drill, or dremel, whatever suits you. I used a large drill bit, and then smoothed it out with a chisel. Periodically try it on, keeping in mind the liner will add a bit more thickness.
Once you have it carved out, replace the liner (I had to add a thin piece of felt glued in the bottom of the helmet to cover up the modified styrofoam), and try it on. Presto! You have a helmet that, by all outward appearances, looks legal, but that fits like a novelty helmet.
Cannon
PS I make no guarantees that your head won't burst like a dollop of glue on the pavement if you wipe out after making said modifications
