We're gonna do the Dragon, we're gonna do the Dragon!

I carry a SPOT tracker which uses satellite communication to notify emergency responders with road and GPS coordinates at the touch of an emergency button. I have used it twice around the Dragon to notify about accidents, saving a lot of time for the accident victims.

Finally! It's been on the "List" for a while.
There are a number of posts about how "Life" gets in the way of some of the things we want to do.
That is our story for sure. But it looks like the planets have aligned, the weather is supposed to be great and we have the bike to get us there.
I know, its not That far from Charlotte, but hey, we are getting old. LOL
So we are packing up the camping gear and heading out. I hear only one direction is open but we want to explore while we are out there.
If we don't make it back and you never hear from us again, its because we decided to Stay!

to all you new Dragon riders. ride it a couple times nice an easy to get the feel of it. the Dragon is a 1st 2nd and maybe shift twice into third gear type of road. its tight, fast swichback type of ridein.
dont worry about 18wheelers, even when open runnin full blast there are few semi trucks that drive that route. Very few. but BUT on most of our old 2lane roads crossin over mountain ridges 18 wheelers will cross over the centerlines to make the tight switchback turns. hell that is natural for these roads! just be ready to whooooo fast and dont worry about it.
I been ridein the Dragon atleast a dozen times a yr for near 40yrs, and anyone who thinks its Overrated needs to kick it in the *** and try stayin up with some of the local tallent. Name another section of road anywhere in the country that is 11miles as good of twisty curvy motorcycle road with no driveways or crossroads. if you like to sparkler, what the hell did you think a road known Nationwide as the Dragon would be I40!
'the Cherohala is a different animal. its a 3nd 4th and 5th gear road with long sweeping curves. two different roads two different rides.
dont override your equipment or your skill and you will love our area of the country.

Amen !! about the Cherohala (Cherokee-Nantahala) Skyway being two completely different rides. The Dragon being very tight switchbacks and complex radius turns with some wild grade changes. The C'Skyway mostly a series of big radius hi-speed sweepers over a beautiful ridgeline with lots of scenic pullouts. I'll take huge numbers of runs on the Dragon, Highway 28 and some classified secret roads, to the occasional run across the Skyway.

After hitting the Dragon, go try the Cherohala Skyway. http://www.cherohala.com/ If I had to choose between the two, it would be the Cherohala every time. Have fun, and ride safe.
