Here's some advice...remove your detachables when you park overnight at motels. A friend of mine recently lost a detachable backrest and windshield during a road trip.

I hang my helmet on the grips, never had a problem. I do have a helmet lock on the handlebars that the wife and I use if we're going to the mall or flea market or some place where we will be away from the bike for several hours.

some a$$whole actually cut the chin strap of my helmet so they could steal it off the helmet lock.
Seriously what good is it without the fricken chin strap?! ever tried replacing a chin strap?!?! pain in the a$$, whats the point??
Some b@ss turds steal just for the hell of it to p1ss you off.....
Would love to catch a thief in the act one day

Geoff, I had never gave it much thought to take off my windshield at a motel. But I would sure be pissed if I came out in the morning at it was gone. After reading your post and this thread I'll be keeping it in the room with me.

Definitely only so much you can do to avoid theft, but best to try & deter. I have the $18 HD helmet lock on my crash bars & put a "torx" screw on the seat vs philips head. Know it's not foolproof, but at least worth a try. Sad to have these things happen to honest peeps.

Had a $15 helemet stolen off my bike in Vegas about 6 years ago, no problems since then. Now I'll usually (but not always) throw my stuff in the s-bag if I'm on the Street Glide or Uly. I usually hang my helmet from the handlebars of the Sporty with the gloves inside.
