I got lucky and found a near new V&H Power Dual head pipe for $200.

Sounds like you're gettin good advice for the heat . As to the melted boots . My wife did that recently . I just heated the engine up to operating temp . Wiped off the excess rubber . Kept wiping till I got it down to a thin layer . Then I used Mr Clean Magic Erasers . Worked like a charm . Only about an hours work .

Sorry I couldn't make it up to Worths. Been out on vacation. You seem to be surprised that certain HD motorcycles have a tendency to get hot in certain situations. Call the MOCO and let 'Em know about it.They'll be flabergasted to know the fact.
The saying "You need to cool down" comes from the early days of motorcycling when just about everything overheated.

Take the heat shields off the pipes and wrap them. Don't forget to put the shields back on. That will help alot.
