I don't know how they can stop you from having the word "Harley" in your domain name. Well at least here in the US you should have the right to have a site about what you want. Selling t-shirts with the Harley name on it would be infringing on their Trademarks. Unless you had t-shirts that said: "Harley Sucks." ... I think you would be fine in that case.
If you want to see a big corporation trying to destroy someone over a name go to www.nissan.com Looks like Nissan motors has lost though. They took it all the way to the supreme court..
You could fight Harley but you have to consider Harley has a lot more money than you do and can make your life miserable.

interesting thread. i have an interest in railroading as well as riding, and union pacific is currently doing the same thing. they are trying to extort (er, i mean collect), royalties from all model rr manufactureres and book (and caender) publishers that market anything labeled "union pacific" and ANY predescesor railroad, even ones where the UP had NOTHING to with, i.e. railroads that were merged into railroads that eventually merged with the UP, even if said merger happened over 100 yrs ago! luckily it looks like at least some of their strong-arm tactics are failing. nice to see a big megacorp. fail once in a while.

How about the big battle many years ago between Ford and Shelby... Ford could not use the word Shelby on their cars but could use the name Cobra... Now look... Ford worked it out with Shelby and Shelby's are now being made by Ford Motor Company...
I am glad that Harley is standing up for their name... I want quality products and don't want to buy something thinking I'm getting a Genuine Harley Product and finding out it is some cheap knockoff... GO HARLEY...

[sm=bicker.gif]I trademarked and servicemarked my band name 'Code Blue'. There are several Code Blue business entities across the country, but our name marks and logos were categorized specifically as a musical/entertainment operation. We don't tread on the marks of the Code Blue respiratory medical equipment company. Hell, we have even played events for medical conventions.
My guess is that using Harley in a motorcycle-related fashion is what ruffled HD's feathers. I'm not makign excuses for HD, just an assumption. It's Sunday. It's raining and I can't ride.

I had some corp bigwigs and their fancy lawyers threaten me with a lawsuit back in 98. I had registered some domain names and was accused of 'cyber squatting' I probably could've won if I had hired my own lawyer but I ended up selling the domain names for a few more bucks than what I purchased them for. It was most likey cheaper to buy them from me than to pay their damn flaw firm.
