Torque specs
Fist time using a torque wrench and have a quick question on the listed ranges. Is it a range (ex. 120-168 in-lbs for rocker boxes) and as long as you are between the numbers you are ok or is tighten to the lower value first then go back around and tighten to the higher value. Thanks in advance.

When I torque down hardware I usually set the torque wrench to the middle of the torque listed in the manual. However; this is for the FINAL torque. Let's say the torque for a given set of bolts is 150-200 ft/lbs. The bolts should be torqued down in stages. Go around all bolts the first time with the wrench set at 50 ft/lbs. Reset the wrench to 100 ft/lbs and hit them again. Now do a final set of 175 ft/lbs and do a final torque.
This will ensure that everything is tightened down evenly.

Certain parts in my motors get the full boat, unless ARP specifies stretching in their hardware as in their rod bolts on my hot rod V-8's.Harley motors get what the factory or after market specifies.
