Put some metal polish on a rag and buff the wheel...if the rag turns black its aluminum, if not they're chrome

Take some aluminum polish and start rubbing. If the rag turns black they're aluminum.

Default Chrome ??

If the finish on your wheels look like your stock chrome steel air filter cover it is probably aluminum with a chrome finish. Will hold up pretty good if it is stock Harley. If it looks smooth like your brake lever but not quite mirror like it is aluminum with maybe a polyurethane coating. The coating does not last long and in a few year the wheel will turn quite gray like my stock back. My front star is chrome aluminum. Looks heavy but it actually is lighter than the original stock steel spoked wheel.

Let's not overthink this.
Have you tried to stick a refigerator magnet to your rim ?
