A French company called GPA makes some that would pass D.O.T. (they're certified in Europe), the model is the Aircraft :

Even for $24 that chinese helmet doesn't look like a deal. To top it off you have to pay shipping from China (not cheap)!

Sorry man, don't think that was a pilot helmet. The pilot helmets that look similar had two snaps on each side towards the bottom to accommodate the oxygen masks and those that didn't had flaps on the inside to hook the oxygen masks, which displayed rivets in the same place the snaps towards the bottom would be.

The part of the Chinese helmet with the red star that covers the goggles would be hell to wear. I bet the sucker catches a crapload of wind!

This one might actually wear better for riding.

like i stated earlier... i dont remember the story.. i know for a fact it was used in 3/4 midgets in the 50s and 60s though ... ill have to find out the entire story on the helmet

that is just a 3/4 face motorcycle helmet, painted black ,with a flag sticker on it..

Great grandfather in the 33 hat with the car he built (checkered flag pic) ... other photos are of the cars he built. He built and raced occasionally in the 50s and 60s in NY and NJ
