I know this would fit in better in the oil question section, but thought maybe i would get a better response here.
Question on my 1999 twin cam FI 1450.
While riding this weekend after about 45-50 mi. I noticed my oil pressure was down to almost 0 - 5lbs. . We stopped for about an hour and then when leaving it was back at 32lbs. 10 miles later after it was warmed up she dropped back down again.
Oil is full and clean, changed 300-400 miles ago. What gives ????? Anyone ealse have this problem ?
She ran flawlessy for another 73 miles to home ( other than the gauge pressure) . Then I start to wonder between the reg. pain in ear noise of the twin cam and or is now low oil pressure. Makes your mind do funny things when you here noises.
By the way , Like I said it runs great, plenty of power. I hate to go to the dealer and ask them, God only knows what they might come up with. "Process of elimination gets expensive"

Was the low pressure at idle? How hot was it outside? Is this something that you just noticed-as in a recent thing?
HD's don't hold a lot of oil pressure at idle when they are at operating temp. And especially if it's hot outside. Oil pressure going to 5psi (or less depending on your gauge), is 'normal' for a hot bike on a hot day. A good traffic jam in Chicago on a 90+degree day will take my pressure down to almost zero...And I run an oil cooler.

The temp. was around 80' and very humid. I use the chrome filter bought at the dealership. I have always questioned this gage. Of course if you ask other people, Like i did on that day, They'll always say "oh my always stays at 32'. Makes wonder if they even notice. When my bike is cold the oil pressure will be around 30 - 35' but like on Sunday after about 50 miles I noticed was very low. It sat for an hour and went right up to 32' and then back down around 5' after about 10 miles.
I'd like to buy a oil / Temp. dipstick but my wife just bought me the nice chrome one for x-mas and I think it makes her feel like a Lil' more into part of ownership/Biker thing.
Normally I keep an eye the gages but on this day we were on the Safe Harbor benefit ride with just under 200 bikes and I think I was watching everyone in front and around me because of the stop / go / stop/ go / slow down / speed up stuff you get into when riding with a group of people who are all playing follow the leader.
