My carb can't hold it
So I have been spending some of my free time cleaning up the bike and taking care of small leaks, I have them all taken care of except i have identified my final issue, the carburetor. My bike is '92 Sportster 1200 and the carb just cant seem to hold its gas. It seems to leak more gas than it should from the overflow tube and also It seems to be leaking somewhere in the throat because the bottom of the airfilter is moist with gas and i can see gas dripping off the bottom of the aircleaner assembly. Whats up with my carb? what should I check??
Thanks guys

Your float is sticking. Turn gas off. Drop the float bowl, you will probably find debris in there, or a tiny piece stuck to the needle seat. Get a manual and make sure the float height is set properly.

Yes that is the correct way. Lazy man's way is to remove the fuel line at the carb and spray carb cleaner through the seat and over the needle. The cleaner that is in the bowl will get pulled through the carb and clean it when the bike is started.

Actually, the lazy man's way is to tap the carb with a wooden hammer handle to see if the float will unstick.

Had to do that twice to my friends bike, cause the first time did not work, got better, either did the second..ended up doing a rebuild kit..not a big deal, new seats and gaskets...problem solved.
Hope the 1st time will work for ya!!
