Default Wind Protection on a Heritage

I test rode a Heritage a couple of weeks ago, and I reeeeally liked it. The thing that struck me the most (besides the comfortable riding position, lack of vibration, balance, smooth ride, etc) was the wind protection behind the shield. I currently ride a Dyna (w/ windshield), and it seemed the wind protection on the Heritage was much better. That's not surprising since the shield is wider. What did surprise me was that it seemed a lot better than a Street Glide that I test drove last year too. Is that right or do I remember it wrong? It seemed to me that the Heritage provided a nice cooling breeze with zero wind buffeting, even at highway speed. More so than the full fairing SG. Do I remember it right or do I need do some more test riding?

You remember right. Streetglides with the stock shield suck.

I got a lot of buffeting on my 09 Heritage. I went to a higher shield & still had problems as the air was coming from down under. Then I added wind deflectors. PERFECT. I may put the original shield back on now to see if it works. The tall one is almost too much protection although I remove it when it's 70* or more.

Which wind deflectors did you use?

The stock Harleys but Kuryakyn has some new ones with vents that can be opened or closed.

Here's a pic from the side of mine with the deflectors on.

I don't feel buffeted on my Herry. Stock windshield and all. Only on days with gusts over maybe 25-30.

Do you wear a half helmet of full face?

yep. I get wind buffering, I even cut my shield down to help as some said it would. naw..

The fangs above is reported to be the best on helping, I don't mind it without the helmet, its not bad at all. But with a helmet it gets worse, some say the helmet is too big if thats the problem. I seldom wear one so it no big thing.

bottom line is the air comes up from the bottom not over the top of the shield. So changing the shield height usually doesn't help a bit. Thats prob why the fangs will...

I am dealing with that now on my 09 Heritage. I added the lower deflectors and it helped some. I added a Mustang Seat which movd me up so now I can feel with my hand the air coming over the top of the shield hitting the top oh my head and at 70 or more its hard to see. This saturday I am going to drill new holes and raise my shield two inches just to see how it works before I buy a new 20 or 21 in shiels.
