Default Rear brake light switch

I've been noticing that my rear brake light switch is to give me a bit of trouble. It seems like I sometimes have to push it all the way down for it to work. I know that it's probably the switch going bad. I have heard there is some type of adjustment you can do to adjust the switch. If so what's the adjustment? I have the shop manual and there's not much info on the rear switch.

At the heel of your brake lever there should be a threaded tube with the switch in it. There is a nut that holds it in place. You loosen the nut to adjust the stroke on the switch & tighten it back up. If you look at it, it should make sense!

There is no adjustment on mine.

I had the exact same symptoms as you. Replace the stoplamp switch and then bleed your brakes.

Do you have to bleed the brakes when you replace the switch?

Get the new switch and then switch it out quickly. Don't get brake fluid on anything important.

Yes. Air can get in the line when you remove your existing switch.

You might as well flush/replace your brake fluid at the same time if you haven't done it for a couple years. Look into getting speed bleeders if you plan on keeping your bike and doing regular brake maintenance on it.
