Indyclassic, I believe they would sell you a new crank with the rods on it. Unfortunately that would be the same inferior part.

That too has crossed my mind, but at this point I have so much money in it I would really take a bath. Hard to sell a new broke down bike.

The rods and bushings are not straight at the ends. The bushing is not a cylinder. The rods are chopped off in such a manner that the top of the bushing is about 1/2 as long as the bottom of the bushing. I do not know how to explain it better.

Like you said: it's not covered in the service manual. But in the part manual you can see what you have to work with. And order by part numbers. You don't have to get your parts from harley store. There are replacement parts made by allot of companies.

How many times can you state (opinion) that HD put in an inferior part? You are the first one I have seen on this site with this problem. There are a lot of people with many, many miles on their 96's and have had no problem. You bought one that broke. Fix it and move on.

Word! No tellin' how that bike was maintained, what mods were done, who did the mods. Lots of unknowns there.

None of this sounds correct. It is a used bike but what has been done to it and how was it serviced.
And I don't understand the BS comments about Harley or Dealerships. If you bought from a thrid party and he did all of the work himself I think you need to speak with him. To many guys on this board think they are mechanics and they are shade trees at best.
Also if you spun a bearing or wrist pin came out you replace everything and be done with it(especially if the motor is open). That is just high school mechanics.
