Most shovels are a love/hate relationship.I think youll always see one around. There are times when Id like to bury mine up to its handlebars in the back yard. When it runs it screams.

If your are going to rebuild with all the electronics and epa sh** on todays bikes you will want a shovel. Easy to carb., remember those, and can be wired up in your sleep. You see from this site the guys who are willing to take your shovel and I can assure you that you can go into any Harley shop and tell the gray beards you are putting together a shovelhead and you'll need a keg for all the volunteer help.

i was always told by some bike builders that they really like the shovel for high compression since there cast and not aluminum...also a friend year before last picked up a shovel for 10.000 really nice and then he spent the year putting another 6 grand into it..

I built up a '78 FXE from a rolling basket case - it was an $1,100 buy, then I added another $8,000 and lots of time. It's light, fast, noisy, and gets a lot of attention. In comparison to my '04 Ultra, the shovel is fun - the Ultra is comfortable.
