the old man with the cheap canvas shoes
was out riding today and came up on an older sportie in front of me on a 2 lane winding road. this guy was about 70 years old wearing them cheap navy blue canvas slip on shoes with the dark blue mechanic looking work pants rolled up to his calves, and high white tube socks. he had the navy blue jeff cap and a ratty *** looking vinyl black jacket on. his saddle bags looked like they were from the civil war and he was doing about 20 miles an hour on a 45 mile and hour road through the mountains. i could see his face in his mirrors and he was just smiling from ear to ear like he was on a sunday site seeing ride. i am the road rage type person when i drive and cant stand people that dont at least do the speed limit. long story short, i just looked at this guy and said...i hope i am doing the same damn thing in my 70's...and just followed patiently behind him...great 20 miles of slow tortuorous riding.

Sometimes it's good to have a bit of patience and understanding when you consider that someday you may be the old man in canvas shoes. I'm 72 and I don't wear canvas shoes or ride 20 mph in a 45 mph zone but I'm not in much of a hurry any more since I've retired. I'll slow down and let someone pull out of a parking lot or let someone with just a couple of items get in front of me at the grocery checkout. Sometimes on a nice summer day I like to climb on the bike and just enjoy a ride at a little less than the speed limit (although I won't hold you up if you come up behind me).
I took my 09 Low Rider that I bought last summer in for it's 10,000 mile service today.
