Arrow Tips for a new rider?

My 20 yr. old son is enrolled in the Basic Rider Course this weekend. It's raining and I told him to get used to it; U can't roll up the windows on a bike. I hope he passes the class. He doesn't like to listen to Dad (the voice of experience), so how's about hearing from all the other roaddoggs here.

Riding tips for a new rider? Thanx & I will be passing this thread along to him.

he's 20 years old...... that's about par for the course.....
HE's doing well to take the class, and IF he listens, he'll have a great foundation to build on... but that's all he'll have... a basic set of skills.
1) practice, until everything is second nature... then practice some more
2) buy good rain gear, before you spend money on chrome or other "goodies"
3) Keep your head up... the father ahead you look, the sooner you see stuff that you need to be aware of
4) where you look.... you go.... use that to your advantage.... look where you want to go, not at what you try to avoid

There's a lot more..... but that'll start the ball rolling

Don't look at anything for more than 2 seconds while moving. Respect the machine and what can happen if you don't. Didn't you know everything at 20?

Should be closer to #1 Have to still remind myself of this all the time.

But #1 would be to ride like everybody is out to get you.

1: Always stay focused & assume nobody else see's you.
2: Learn all you can by other peoples mistakes, its less painful.

if you see flashing lights behind you remember you'll get more chicks for beign on the news then beign stopped on the shoulder for a ticket LOL

on a more serious note, pay attention to your bike and your surroundings, relax, dont to be afraid to practice in a parking lot, and if you do lay it down while practicing dont worry its only metal it can be fixed.

best of luck and keep therubber down and the knuckles up

never ride beyond your abilities< your gut feeling is usually right on this one

you have initiated invisibility mode when you get on a bike

everyone wants to kill you

If you think a car is going to pull out and cut you off it is!
Always stay aware of everybody else they are more likely to make you crash than you are.

The course will teach him the skills he needs to properly handle the bike and hopefully, he will take this knowledge and continue honing his skills.

But if I could give him one little bit of advise (especially at his age) is to WATCH YOUR SPEED. Especially through intersections. There's a time to use the throttle and hot ******* through traffic isn't one of them.

...and pay attention to all the other advise that will appear on this thread.
Valuable info here!
