New rider cracks me up on a group ride.
Six of us did a ride up into Pa. this weekend and someone brought a new guy who just bought a RK last fall.
He was in the 5 spot I was 6 and he kept lagging way behind the group so I finally passed him, half an hour later at a stop he jumped back in front of me but for the rest of the day he stayed right wth the group and anytime he dropped off even a little I could see him checking his mirrors for me. I guess he hates being last.
One of those things that just cracked me up a little on the ride, I think I pissed him off. Weird but schooling a new guy kind of made me smile.

thats why you put the new guy up front or in the back so they can ride at there level of skill. Otherwise you get a newbie that does what this guy does and before its over it bits him in the **** as hes trying to keep up with the group and makes a stupid rookie mistake and ends everyones fun day.

Some groups rides speed more than some new riders can handle. With a small group like that should have much of a problem with the group riding together. Try riding with couple hundred riders with road guards.

This guy was not a bad rider and I am not real picky about gaps but it can get to the point when you are not even part of the group anymore. If a car on a side street can pull out between you thats too much.
As far as the large rides cadman I just don't do them anymore, waiting an hour to ride slow and always having to pay attitention to the bike if front of you just no fun anymore. used to enjoy them.

Haha! We all have to start somewhere...
To this day, I still don't ride with groups I'm unfamiliar with. I've been invited on some group rides, but since I don't know anyone in the group I generally pass. One guy in particular, that keeps inviting me, talks about his solo rides alot, and what he does scares me...I guess I'm just afraid the group would be the same. I'm more of a laid back rider. I don't go slow, but I don't find enjoyment in seeing how fast I can go around a blind corner. Going the speed limit is more my cup of tea.

DocJ, you just need to find a couple of the right guys, I really like riding with a couple of people on occasion. There are six or seven of us mostly in our 50's and ony one guy is kind of crazy, we don't need the tickets.
