First Group Ride!

First Group Ride!
My wife and I went on our first group ride Sunday.
MDA Ride for the Cure, Boise, ID.
What a blast!
800 bikes, they shut down the freeway, Police escort.....what a trip!
Then we met up with some friends and rode around the rest of the day, until the free dinner at Joe's Crab Shack.
Gotta do the group thing more often, but we don't know many people who ride here.
It's usually just the two of us, which is still pretty cool...

i hate group rides but to each their own, for a good cause it's well worth it.. i can't stand riding in groups with more than four people, and even then there's typically someone trying to run the show and tell everyone what to do, i've been known to simply pull a right while the group goes straight.

Group Rides
I am a member of a bike club in my area called Brazos Dos Dios. We have dinner rides most every Wed. or Thursday night. There are usually 8 to 10 riders plus passengers. I am not to crazy about groups but I ride at the rear and a distance behind. I am an experianced rider but still watch for the other riders. I do this so my attention is on the road. If you ride in the front or middle you have to keep adjusting you speed and constantly looking in your mirrors watching for the other riders. If I go on a longer ride it is with one or two riders with no one taking charge. We just decided where we are going and the person that has been there before rides in front. I try and stay at least 30 to 40 yards behind as to be able to stop if something happens. I do not ride late at night much here in Texas, to many animals and other criters out at night ( drunks and dopers ). One thing that we do is before each dinner ride we write down a phone and a name to call if that person does have an accident to let someone know where they are at.

I'm glad you had fun, and everyone had a safe ride (as far as you know)
Group rides, would be when you join a group, and ride with the same people on a regular basis. the group could be organized with rules, or it could be an "ad Hoc" arrangement. Both have good, and bad points

Well, the large group only rode for about 12 miles fom the dealer to BSU Stadium. The a group of 8 of us took off on our own the rest of the day.
I can't say the large group didn't get old after about 4 miles of slow-n-go, doubled up.
The smaller group staggered, with people I had at least met before was pretty cool though.
At every stop I got to hear some crazy stories - 4 of them were cops, and didn't know about my somewhat rocky past...I just kept my mouth shut.
