Default changing oil filter ONLY

Long story short went to do the OL's fluids yesterday and didnt have the right filter wrench. So cause I'm stupid i just did the oil. Can i take the filter off now? Or will i loose all the oil out of the tank? Will it only drain to the oil lines?

That's a good question, that I don't know the true answer to. I think ya can pull the filter and just loose the oil in the filter and lines, but I'm not sure. Really never thought of it before now.

For future reference you can pound a flat head screw driver into the side of the filter and use it to remove it. messy but it works in a pinch.

Seascape; I had a "geritol moment" one time & saw the new filter on my workbench after dumping in the oil

Decided to go ahead & swap filter after oil b/c I didn't start the bike so all the oil was still in lower motor. Other than the norm oil in filter - nothing else ran out. I'd say have a pan ready & swap the filter. You could lose a little fluid, but just top off when the new filter's on.

30 years later I can remember my dad filling his car with 5 qts of oil, and he never put the drain plug back in. He was more mad at me for my reaction

shouldnt be an issue go aheadand give'er hell. channel locks or a pipe wrench works lacking those if you have a leather belt you can make in impromptu strap wrench fairly quickly

Since U already did it really don't make any difference.
2 choices, either do it or leave the filter till next change. then U'll know...

You can no problem, but if you ran the bike, remember that that little bit of old oil is mixed with the new now. Being the way I am, I'd just do the whole operation over again.

What he said.

Changing the oil with out doing the filter is like taking a shower and putting your dirty clothes back on.
