dealers get 20 percent off msrp on baggers period
i assume there are some hold backs and bonuses if they take distressed inventory or make some sales quota
but 20 points is what they work off on the big bikes

 

Again, I was just pulling some chains. The above post at 20% off msrp is probably in the ballpark. Add on financing if it sits on the floor.

 

I just want to thank the guy that started this tread.I am shopping for a new bike I have two in mind.I bought a new one 2006 and it was MSRP plus shipping and Prep fee that it or leave it. I don't like to see the economy bad but it was nice to walk into the HD dealership and be just a little in charge, they wrote up the two bike for comparison with all fee's added and then they said there is nothing set in stone that we are dealing now and its nothing like 2006.But he did say that he would discount a Road King Classic more that a Street Glide because there better sellers in the area.Harley's will always be over priced because people like me and you keep loving and buying them point blank. I just wish they didn't make so many differant models now,I love them all and can't deside. lol but guess what they laughed at me when I wanted to test drive one in 2006. Today they begged me to go home and put my long pants on and boots and come back for a test ride. I deliberately wore shorts and flip flops up there so I could take my time and not be pressured. There are some great deals on used Road Kings by private sellers right now,but I don't see many used Street Glides for sale and I am talking about only 2009 models for used.

 

Shipping costs are definitely dependent upon destination. The cost of fuel alone ... not to mention the drivers wages and travel expenses (meals, accommodations) for a 100 mile trip as opposed to 1000 mile trip will be quite different.

These are all part of the costs that the dealer has to suck up and pass down to the customer. The manufacter won't absorb those costs, that's for sure! That is not an unusual business practice.
