I think we need to realize that some states apparently DO NOT require a background check and that is the issue. If the gangs pass background checks, like you or I, and stay clean, then their conceal carry is not an issue. The problem is that some states apparently DON'T required background checks and with reciprocity, a criminal can carry in 16 or 20 states.
I also find the difference in gun laws state to state AMAZING. I live in NJ where it's virtually impossible to get a carry permit (I'm a law abiding citizen with a permit but don't have a "reason" to get a Concealled Carry). As I understand the laws in nearby Pennsylvania (30 - 40 minutes away) if you can get a gun (premise/range permit), then you can get a carry permit.
The gun laws mean that a responsible citizen in one state cannot carry while a criminal who is lived at one time in a lax state (and who could be standing next to you or I at Sturgis) can carry..

Very interesting post. I recently saw a post from a person that lives in Canada saying that handguns should be illegal in the US because in his country where it is illegal there was less killing, etc.
I just read an article here on CCW that tends to indicate that violent crime in the US is going down as the number of firearms and states that allow CCW go up.
I agree with you, it is our right and prividledge here, and I try to look after it as best I can with contributions to lobbying groups, gun rights groups and how I vote.

Your statistics of safety in a CCW state are correct. But, I could not find one comparable statistic for a similar sized city in the states when I just did a search.
Personally I believe that you should be able to carry, but there is a lot of idiots that should not have guns.

I could not agree more about certain people not being able to have guns. I also think that certain people should not be allowed to pro-create, I just don't know how to draw those lines without pissing some people off, so I guess that if you are legally able to own a gun, ie, no felonies, no mental illness, no diminished capacity, etc., then it's okay, and if you can get it up you can................

Is Florida one of them? I am in favor of national permits so you don't have to worry about what state honers what. I hear that Arizona allows open carrying of firearms, no need for concealed permit.

Actually, there are 18 states with reciprocity with S. Dakota.
Carrying a concealed weapon legally is very honorable.
n exchange for the same consideration, South Dakota honors concealed weapons permits from 16 states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.
Carrying a concealed weapon legally is very honorable.

When I took a firearm safety class for the concealed weapons permit the instuctor pionted out a difference. FL permits concealed weapons (knives, clubs, guns). He mentioned some states have concealed gun permits that do not cover other weapons.
