I guess I don't think enough about people to really care what they think. I've seen enough goofy stuff on peoples bikes to where something as functional as a windshield should not worry you. None of us are getting any younger and putting down the miles is easier with the shield. With the quick detach feature- I'm even considering one. Maybe next year............but I like the wind.

If I had my way, I would be riding around on some really cool custom pro street with a rigid tail and a 130hp/tq S&S lump in it.
However, I like to ride, I have fast bikes that are unreliable or uncomfortable already. So my H/D needed to be a bike I could use for touring. So, I ended up with a Grampy glide. And it has the full time fairing on it. I gotta say, I think it looks cool enough with the fairing, I still get plenny wind, and I have had it to 3 corners of the US so far.
Sometimes you just gotta go with what works.

It depends on the bike. My Heritage is designed with a windshield and I like the look. On some other bikes it looks like it was stuck on as an afterthought. Do what you want.

I never have those conflicts. My RKC and other Harleys all have had windshields. Different strokes for different folks. Ever hear it?

I have to agree with you. I love the looks of my Softail Custom when it's naked, but I perfer function and comfort over form any day.

Yea, I got to agree. I have the quick release windshield. I got it after a long ride PA to FL reminded me that wind causes fatique that reduces riding time. So I thought I would just use it when taking long rides. Then I started using it in the fall for colder temps. I left it on over winter and this spring continued using it for colder temps. I ride to work on a 35/40min. commute.

Well, the temps started getting warmer here in Central Pa. I took the "weenie" shield off yesterday and went on a short ride. The short ride was only 15/20min. What bothered me the most was the wind noise that I had been used too but now I was pussified by the shield. The sound of the bike was so much clearer with the shield.

So you ask. Why a shield. You can call me a weenie, ***** or whatever but the shield will stay. I ride with a half helmet and have not used ear plugs. Question? Ride with a shield OR Ride without a shield BUT with ear plugs? OK! it's Bike Night - It is a quick release shield !!!

Took me 2 years of pulling mine on and off the bike to get used to it. Now I have a glide so it isn't an issue.

I'm leaving work early to pick up my Q/D shield. I know it'll look like a skinny kid in the donut shop, but i don't really care. I'm also 28 yrs old (for that Old Guy theory), but i can't help the feeling that i'm going to be torn from my saddle at 75mph and i don't like traveling slower than traffic and having the bigrigs flying by me either. I'll use it on trips over 30/40 mi on the hwy. anything under that i'll look good

There is another way to solve your problem. Just trade for an older model XL--they look great with big shield, bags, rack, tandem seat, and rear trunk. Maybe you've just got the wrong bike. As they say about super models, "...she looks good wearing a potato sack."
