I think having or not having a windshield has A LOT to do with how old you are and where you live. In the desert Southwest, there just aren't as many flying insects to contend with or the frigid winds from the Great North. And younger folk (generally speaking) are willing to accept a certain amount of discomfort in order not to look like a dork. J/K

Toastman, nice to hear your ***** finally dropped.

Yeah, I took the shield off last week during a nice warm day. 20 miles out caught a bug (maybe a humming bird) in the cheek. Stung like hell and exploded guts down the side of my face and filled my ear. Think I had my fill of riding with out it for awhile. I will probably try to impersonate a kid again sooner or later.

Either it is too cold to ride with out it, or you have the bugs. Michigan is great.

After a while you will learn to love the shield. On the right bike it fits quite nice. The only time mine comes off is serious hot rodding,or a race that I need a little extra security.

I love my little windjammer... won't ride without it... it sure cuts down on wind fatique after a couple hours riding. I'm 6'1" on an 883... I could care less what I look like.

I hate the look of the windshield on my bikes so I don't have one. I also hated the look of saddlebags too. Both are really useful and if I rode hundreds of miles at a time would have to rethink.
