Default Keep it from getting stolen

Recently bought my first Harley. After reading the forums here, I am sorry to say that it is a 2006 Superglide, apparantly the worst year bike Harley ever made. (sniffle) But I like it so far. I travel a lot, am gone about 3 weeks a month and live in a townhouse with a car port. Right now the bike is in the carport, covered with a thick cable attaching it to a steel pole to hold the carport roof up. Does anyone know of a fairly fool proof way of keeping a bike from getting stolen, especially since I'm not there to watch it. Hoping for some unique product or something. Thanks!

The best thing to get is good insurance that covers the bike and any accessories you may have installed.

As you probably already know; the thieves will get it if they really want it. They will cut right through a frame to take a chain off because they can't really use it anyway. It's the rest of the stuff they want.

Lock the forks. If they try to roll it onto some trailer, they'll only be able to roll it in circles. Combined with your leash to the pole, that seems pretty safe.

block it in with something...car, truck, steel bin, anything heavy and hard to move without causing a scene.

Wow... Guess you don't live in a hi crime metro area... Fork lock and a chain are childs play around here.

OP, you can only do so much if you dont have a garage to store it in. Have you looked into public storage? For about $75 a month, you have more piece of mind then worrying if someone is going to cut your chain in the middle of the night.

If you are going to keep it in the carport, you might also consider a disc brake lock as an added deterrent.

That is correct! I'm pretty lucky out here. Good neighbors and good people. I've had a few things go missing, but generally, if someone wants it bad enough, they're going to take it–no matter how much you try to lock it down.

Without a storage like what was mentioned, just do your best to discourage would be thieves.

Go out and rent a small 8x12 storage locker close to your place in a gated secure facility. Keep it there.
