I've tried many over the years, but my "Zox" old school helmet is the lightest smallest most comfortable I have found and it doesn't catch the wind at all.

Check e-bay, you can pick one up delivered for $45.00. Steer clear of the HD helmets your paying extra for the name. There made by companies like HJC etc.

I ordered a skid lid from a local shop, should be coming in today or tomorrow, the one they had in the store that I tried on was a large, looked and felt a lot better, except for the extra room in the front... which is why I ordered a smaller size. The vox and skid lids don't look much different at all from pictures online.

I'll let you know what I think about it after I ride with it for a little bit though!

unless you need to get on a military base or dont' want a hassle with the man, i wouldn't bother with a DOT 1/2 helmet. in a real accident that thing ain't staying on your dome anyway, i doubt it protects any better than a novelty helmet. the only way it does is if you happen to flip upside down and land on the top of you head.

if you want DOT for protection probably step it up to at least a 3/4 helmet so it'll stay put if you hit the ground.

I took a thick O Ring and slid it over the strap. When I fasten the helmet I fold/tuck the excess length into the O Ring. Same principle as the little red hair tie thing only on the strap rather than near the D Rings. Work's great and you don't have to shorten the strap.

Bets I can tell, that's just how DOT helmets fit. Those nice trim ones in the movies as NOT DOT approved. I got a Zox or something that might eb a little thinner than harley, and much cheaper, but still a mushroom head. I just quit wearing helmets.

However, the HD helmet I had did have a snap on the strap the snap the extra strap end to. My Zox (or whatever) has a little stretch band, like one of those ponytail holders.
